Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Celebrating Black Art; Alma Thomas and Black History with a Sip & Paint Event
Challenge: Marriott International sought a cohesive approach to celebrate Black History Month and honor the legacy of renowned artist Alma Thomas across its properties in the United States.
Solution: I conceived and developed a comprehensive campaign brief for a “Brushstrokes of Heritage” Sip & Paint event, designed to engage local communities and celebrate the artistic contributions of Black artists. This initiative involved:
- Concept Development: Creating a unique event concept that combined art appreciation with a social and interactive experience.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Coordinating efforts across various departments including Guest Services, Banquets, Food & Beverage, and Recreation to ensure seamless event execution.
- Local Artist Engagement: Identifying and partnering with a talented local Black artist to lead the Sip & Paint activity and share their artistic perspective with guests.
- Multi-Channel Promotion: Developing a strategic promotional plan encompassing email marketing, press releases, on-property collateral, website graphics, and lobby TV displays to maximize event visibility and attendance.
Results: The Brushstrokes of Heritage Sip & Paint event successfully brought communities together for a meaningful celebration of Black History Month and artistic expression. The event fostered guest engagement, promoted local artistic talent, and reinforced Marriott’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
